With the shorter, cooler days and longer nights, our bodies naturally need more sleep. Try going to bed 30 minutes earlier than usual during the winter months. A sleep deprived body is more susceptible to illness.
Less sugar, more spice.
In the winter, it’s important to keep up with our immune system health. Spices such as oregano, turmeric, and garlic have amazing health benefits with their antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Use spices liberally in your winter recipes for added healthy antioxidants!
Keep wipes and gels within reach between shopping trips and even phone-calls. Stock up on hand sanitizer in your purse, gym locker, car, and work desk!
Reducing stress is particularly important during flu season. Exercise keeps your immune system healthy, but don’t overdo it! Yoga relieves tension while getting your heart pumping simultaneously. Hot yoga has incredible detoxing benefits, too. Consider hiring a trainer to guide you through yoga this winter.
Don’t forget your vitamins.
Fish and cod liver oil supplements have the added benefit of vitamin A and D, both great for the winter months when we have less access to natural sunlight. Keep your gut healthy with probiotics and consume as many green leafy vegetables to compliment your intake! Supplements also increase your digestive health and boost your immunity.
