3 Fixes for a Better Workout

3 Fixes for a Better Workout

What does “new life” mean to you?

When I’m training a client or teaching a class, my goal (and Front Door Fitness’ mission) is for trainees to experience “new life” after each sweat session. This means different things to different people, but most likely it sounds like this: reduce stress, think more clearly, feel accomplished or leave rejuvenated. So, why don’t you experience “new life” after your own workouts? Here are 3 things that may be standing in the way of giving you “new life” and 3 simple fixes.

The Problem: You are on your phone.
The Fix: Give your brain a break and ditch the cellular device.
Many of us are are on and off our phones all day long. Our brains are constantly on demand. Your workout offers time to relax, focus, breathe, listen and take in your surroundings. How is that supposed to happen when you’re checking your Facebook app for the tenth time today? Don’t let technology steal that valuable time from you. Follow in my footsteps and leave your phone in your gym back and I guarantee you’ll have a better workout.

Distractions in your workoutThe Problem: You do the same thing you’ve always done.
The Fix: Try something knew!
If every day you go to the same gym, get on the same treadmill, walk at the same pace for the same amount of time your brain and body might just be bored stiff with your workouts. I know that change can be scary, but I challenge you to try at least one new thing every workout. The change can be anything from trying a new machine, exercise or stretch or even smiling at someone new. Don’t worry about looking silly. If you’re unsure about a new piece of equipment, ask the attendant or a trainer to help you. This is a great way to keep your brain sharp, your body guessing and encourages “stick-to-it-iveness” in your workout plan.

The Problem: You begrudge your workouts.
The Fix: Shift your mindset.
You don’t HAVE to workout today, you GET to workout today! Exercising is an amazing privilege that not everyone is able to enjoy. Be grateful that your body functions properly and appreciate the amount of time you have to commit to caring for it – even if it’s just 15 minutes. A fresh outlook may be just what you need to boost your mood for the rest of the day.

If you implement one or all of these strategies, let me know how it goes by commenting below! Did you have a better workout? Did you experience “new life” in the end?
