DancerI have a question for you (I promise there’s a point to this)…

If your goal in life was to be recognized as a World Famous Dancer, but you never practiced dancing on your own – mastering specific techniques – do you really think you would succeed?

Making that relate a little bit more to some of the subject matter on this blog…

If your goal is to see meaningful progress in your body towards your ideal weight (say losing 10 pounds or so), but you never practiced exercises on your own – making the exercise your own – what do you think the chances are that you’ll achieve your goal?

If you haven’t picked it up just yet, today I’d like to focus on the value of consistently performing an exercise and how it relates to your results.

The amount of time people spend with a personal trainer, whether it be in a gym (in a more traditional/inconvenient sense) or from the comfort of their own home like FDF offers, isn’t what determines their success towards their goal.  That’s true whether you’re talking about losing weight, getting stronger, toning up, etc…

What determines success is what those people do on their own time.

  • How often are they going back over the things their trainer tells them?
  • How often are they going for a jog on their own?
  • How often are they practicing the proper technique of the workout in order to get the best results possible?

The key to having those personal breakthroughs doesn’t lay in the amount of time that is spent having a great workout with a trainer (hopefully that’s a given when you’re working with a great trainer).  The solution is only found in the personal time spent practicing the achievement of your goal.

Don’t just wish you can run a 5K — that won’t make it happen.  Practice running a 5K until eventually, you do.  Don’t just wish that you were fit — practice being fit, and eventually you will be!

I’m sure you get my point by now, but I just felt like I needed to throw that one out there to help keep someone motivated and remind them why they’re putting their body through the physical rigors they’ve decided to take on.  You’re doing it all in the name of a better version of yourself, but you have to keep practicing “being better” in order to actually get better.

If you need any good ideas on what routines you could practice in order to get to your better-self, don’t hesitate to contact us using the form in the upper-right portion of this screen.  Someone from FDF will follow-up with you ASAP.  (Like us on Facebook too while you’re at it!)

Have a good day, and don’t forget to stay motivated.

This post is for everyone out there who procrastinates – we all do it, but some of us take it REALLY far.

One major truth to Exercise is that there are no shortcuts to a more fit You.  There are ways to make the process more enjoyable, quick, intense, muscle-specific, varied and so on — but there are no shortcuts.  Front Door Fitness won’t sell you a fantasy of telling you that there won’t be work involved, because there will be — most good things are worth working for right?

Every man and woman who has ever committed to a fitness- & health-oriented lifestyle knows the revelation above to be sound, and also accepted that they have to start where they are.  How does the saying go: Every journey begins with the first step…

The level of challenge associated with beginning a new exercise routine (especially with a personal trainer) will depend on your current physical conditioning and previous workout experience, but it will always pay-off if you see it through. You can truly accomplish great things if you put your mind to it…

Keep in mind that there is no other time than “the present” that we can really impact (“the past” is gone, and “the future” isn’t here yet). Every time you think to yourself “Hey I’m going to workout,” but then end the thought with, “tomorrow…” your chances of actually doing so dwindle more and more with each unfulfilled promise to yourself.

It’s time to get a little bit more accountable.

South Korean Mountain Climber Oh Eun-sun.

Here's a great example of what "starting now" can do for you -- this is South Korean Mountain Climber Oh Eun-sun. Believe it or not, she has scaled ALL 14 of the worlds highest mountain peaks. There's no way she could've done that if she spent her time brooding over the past, of contemplating solely on the future. She got into it NOW, and accomplished her goal day-by-day, literally step-by-step. CLICK THE PICTURE to read her story from the NY Times.

We’re coming upon a new year – and many people are going to make a resolution to get in better shape, but why wait?  Act now and contact us using the form in the upper-right portion of this web page to start taking that step in the right direction.  We’ll make the journey more interesting and productive for you all from the comfort of your own home.

A happy woman and her kids.

Bring kids into this great habit early on...

Hey everyone – would you like to know a low-stress way to get healthier and healthier while helping yourself kick bad eating habits?  I’ve blogged on this topic before on my own personal blog – and I still think it’s just as effective, so I thought I’d share.

Simply find a healthy substitute you enjoy for some of your favorite non-healthy foods.

Has anyone ever done this before?  Here are some examples to help get you started down this little path of better personal nutrition…

Drop the Sugary Drinks

I substituted pop and other sugary beverages for fruit juice.  I’m talking 100% juice with no additives, so that I can enjoy nature’s goodness as it was intended to be.  There are a ton of brand dedicated to providing these healthy alternatives now – so they’re easily accessible at your local grocer.  I also started drinking a lot more water too – can’t forget the water.

Choose Your Breads Wisely

Another one was opting for whole wheat breads vs. processed breads like white bread.  I’ve found that I honestly enjoy the flavor of wheat bread more, and I think it helps out my body a bit more too because of all the other nutrients it provides.  Not wanting to ingest a ton of carbohydrates, I began pulling back on how much bread I consumed regularly too.  I still eat it – I just don’t gorge myself on the baked delights as often.  All good things in moderation.

Healthier “Salty Snack Options” DO Exist

The biggest personal food switch for me was potato chips.  I still eat them sparingly from time-to-time, but I seriously used to go through about two bags a week because they were my favorite salty snack.  Now I just eat salted & roasted shelled peanuts in their place.  They’re cholesterol free – so it takes away some of the guilt associated with downing chip after chip relentlessly.  Peanuts are also a good source of protein, so I see better results with some of my workouts. Some seeds are also good substitutes.

The examples I provided above can pretty much be one with anything you eat:

  • Candy (fruit is Nature’s candy and a much healthier alternative)
  • Cereals (I switch between my favorite sugary cereals and Frosted Mini-wheats or Honey Bunches of Oats)
  • Ice cream (go low-fat or try yogurt)
  • Vegetables (microwaved ones are better for you than boiled ones because it holds in more nutrients)
  • Breakfast foods (try turkey bacon, egg whites, etc.)
  • Milk (2% or skim milk)
  • And the list goes on…

Don’t go in extremes – just take it one food vice at a time.

I’ve personally tried this and it works – it just requires the dedication to make it habitual.  You’ll be happy you’re enjoying what you eat and your body will feel better than it used to at times.  It cuts down on sabotaging your workout routine and also offers you a bit of peace of mind on top of all the other health benefits you’ll see.

What’s something you know isn’t good for you that you can give up today?  Got it in your mind?  Good – go get rid of it or promise yourself you’ll buy something healthier in its place to serve the same function (e.g. I did peanuts for the saltiness of chips).
